Use Cases

Subscription Transfer

As more smartphones—such as the latest iPhones—go eSIM-only, users can no longer insert their existing physical SIM into the new device. The Entitlement Server enables a seamless transition by provisioning the user’s existing mobile subscription on to the new device’s eSIM and validating any required entitlements. On iOS, data and settings are moved via Apple ID, while carrier-side activation happens in parallel. On Android, EAP-AKA is used to authenticate and trigger the update. In both cases, the ES ensures service continuity without user intervention. This process eliminates the need for support calls or manual provisioning of additional eSIMs, fully automating the transfer and ensuring service continuity without user or operator intervention.

Smartwatch pairing with the same number

Supports One-Number (Apple) and Shared-Number (Android) configurations, allowing smartwatches to share the same MSISDN as a paired phone. This enables users to make calls, send messages, and access features like Siri and Maps from their watch—even when their phone isn’t nearby. The ES verifies the user’s entitlement and handles the coordination of plan activation, improving time-to-service and enabling in-app provisioning directly through apps like Apple Watch or Galaxy Wearable.

Smartwatch activation with a different number

Enables use cases like Apple’s Family Setup or Android’s standalone watch plans, where a watch operates with its own MSISDN, independently from a smartphone. This is ideal for children or family members without phones. The ES ensures proper entitlements are applied, manages service provisioning, and maintains synchronization with network policies, enabling voice, messaging, and data services from the first boot.

iPad data plan activation

Facilitates the on-device purchase and activation of data plans via eSIM, streamlining user onboarding without physical SIMs or in-store visits. The ES validates eligibility and ensures the device is provisioned correctly from the start.

Enterprise and MDM-integrated provisioning

Works with MDM platforms to provision eSIM profiles and activate plans on enterprise-managed devices, automating the entitlement flow and ensuring secure, policy-compliant activation at scale.

VoLTE and VoWiFi enablement for Android

Card background image
Dynamically provisions VoLTE and VoWiFi capabilities on supported Android devices, ensuring that voice services are correctly activated and that traffic can be offloaded to LTE or Wi-Fi networks in line with the user’s subscription.

RCS and enriched messaging

Card background image
Enables messaging feature access such as Rich Communication Services (RCS) on compatible Apple and Android devices, complementing standard SMS with more interactive messaging capabilities.

Non-SIM Apple device enablement

Card background image
Activates VoWiFi on Apple devices like iPads and Macs by linking them with the user’s iPhone entitlement. This allows users to place calls or send messages via their Apple ID even without a SIM in the secondary device.

Tethering and roaming optimization on iOS

Card background image
The ES manages entitlement settings that control whether features like personal hotspot and roaming are available on the device. For example, an operator can automatically enable roaming within the EU “Roam Like at Home” zone—so the user doesn’t have to manually toggle roaming on when they land in another EU country. This reduces confusion, improves user experience, and ensures entitlements are enforced according to the subscription and regulatory context.

Enhanced security through entitlement validation

Card background image
The ES can block entitlement provisioning if the device or SIM is blacklisted or does not meet operator’s policy criteria. It also verifies that the SIM, device, and user identity are authorized to activate services, denying activation in cases of stolen SIMs or dedicated operator’s decision.

Apple iMessage/FaceTime Seamless Activation

The dedicated action is exchanged between the device and Entitlement Server and Apple servers (there is no need to send SMS any more).
